THE FOLLOWING IS A POST FROM FEB 2022 THAT SOMEHOW ENDED UP IN MY DRAFTS FOLDER AND WAS NEVER ACTUALLY PUBLISHED. UNTIL TODAY!
-------------
Thrilled to share that I've completed the entire Google Career Certificate in UX Design!
Flash back to about one year ago: My industry remained mired in a shutdown, and I needed something to do, something to focus on. This certificate caught my eye--could I learn a whole new discipline at my age? Ever since briefly dipping my toes into iOS App Store development back in 2009, I'd always been interested in UX. This program looked like a good way to explore that interest further, without any preconceived notions about where it might lead.
Though it took a few months longer than I'd initially expected and I came close to giving up a couple times, I resolved to finish what I started. And now, a year later, I have an entry-level UX portfolio and a bunch of cool skills under my belt.
What happens next? Will I fully pivot from a music industry career into UX? Unlikely. Will I pursue freelance UX Design as a side gig? Perhaps. Will I take deeper learnings from this course--user empathy, clarity, simplicity, accessibility, combating bias-- and find ways to integrate them into my primary career? ABSOLUTELY.
Most importantly, I reassured myself that I can learn new things at ANY age. Here's to more learning.
